Abstract
The essay follows the path of political lie during modern and contemporary age, by analyzing both those authors who faced this problem occasionally, and those who did it directly (Jonathan Swift, Alexandre Koyré and Hannah Arendt). The path crosses the «legitimate» lie pronounced in the interest of the State, the lie affirmed for contingent reasons, and the falsification of reality, the absolute lie, of totalitarian regimes.
