Abstract
In order to propose a consistent interpretation of human rights which takes into account the different perspectives of other cultures, the author analyses Martha Nussbaum theory of "capabilities". The essay's main aim is to verify the possibility of determining those universal principles which are needed in order to guarantee the full respect of human beings considered as ends in themselves.
