Abstract
Starting from Michele Prandi’s book Rhetoric. A Discipline To Be Refounded, we reflect on the position that text linguistics comes to have in this new context. What are its fundamental characteristics? How does it interact with related disciplines such as pragmalinguistics, philosophy of language, functional syntax and theory of figures of speech? The answer is divided into three parts: in the first, we present Prandi’s point of view in a circumstantial way; this is followed by a critical discussion of the choices made, in which we propose clarifications, additions and modulations; finally, we examine the treatment of figures of speech offered by Prandi, identifying its novelties and implications
