Abstract

The author analyzes a few examples of poetic texts which begin with a conjunction (e.g.: «E s'aprono i fiori notturni...», from Pascoli's "Gelsomino notturno"). The origin of such beginnings has been traditionally attributed to the age of Ugo Foscolo. The paper supplies some former examples, and examines their wide presence in the language of theatre, literature and music, from where the phenomenon has been then derived into the lyrical poetry.
