Abstract
This essay examines the influence of the «Great Mother» theme in Gianni Celati’s work through a diachronic and intertextual-intermedial lens. It traces this theme from the essay Mitologie romanzesche americane (included in the first edition of Finzioni occidentali, 1985, but removed from the second edition in 1986) through his novels of the 1970s: Comiche, Le avventure di Guizzardi, La banda dei sospiri, and Lunario del paradiso.
