Abstract
The aim of this essay is to point out how the theme of "Le città del mondo" appears as a continuum in Vittorini's artistic project because of its symbolic and utopian meaning. Already present in "Diario in pubblico" (in dialogue and essay form), in the early 50's the theme of "Le città del mondo" is developed in the novel of the same title. Left unfinished, this work will be peculiarly accomplished in the homonymous «dramatized novel», linked to the narrative text by the poetics of the mythical voyage and utopian search central to the characters.
