Abstract
Starting from the analysis of a concrete case, I argue that chatbots based on large language models, such as ChatGPT, do not really “talkµ at all, and discuss why users persist in believing otherwise. This in turn serves to clarify what worries about such technologies are justified (and why), and which ones are off the mark (and why).
