Abstract
The paper presents some basic principles towards a general theory of machine consciousness: the integration of several sources on information, e.g., sensory data coming from the various parts of the entity, and the capabilities of self adaptation of the several parts of the artificial entity. The project "DINFO 9000" starting at the Department of Computer Engineering of the University of Palermo aims at building an ambient intelligence architecture inspired by these principles and operating inside the Department.
