Abstract

Several research in affective science are based on animal models - usually mammals. Many discoveries and concepts are then generalized to humankind. In this article I discuss some epistemological caveats concerning the generalization of emotion concepts between humankind and other species. I will focus in particular on two ontologies of emotion: the categorical taxonomy of Basic Emotions, and the dimensional taxonomy of Core Affect.
