Abstract

The most important dimension of the firm is knowledge, and the firm is also, above all, a cognitive system. Knowledge takes the form of resources, which play a central role in the process of production of value, that is the method by which the firm makes concrete its development behavior. The production of resources is a process of self-creation and this recurrent mechanism is the essence of the firm. The production of resources has to cope with technological and market changes, using a particular kind of resources, dynamic capabilities, that are necessary to the creation, evolution and re-combination of existing resources into new ones. Learning and unlearning are central to these processes.
