Abstract
In this article the author uses the notions of Sociability as analyzed by Georg Simmel and the notion of Togetherness analyzed by Ash Amin. The aim is to analyze those forms of sociability which arise from casual and light, pleasant interactions, assuming that individuals, in all forms of being together in public spaces, undergo social recognition of others, learn codes of civic conduct and experience collective public resources more than political participation. Therefore the article shows some examples of this kind of sociability: a public library (San Giovanni di Pesaro) based in Pesaro (Italy), the Chelsea Market and the High Line Park in New York (Usa). The author analyzes a fiction novel too, Pars vite et reviens tarde by the French writer Fred Vargas to underline as the new forms of communities in metropolis arise from casual encounters and from being located in a same place and are based on shared daily life more than on traditions and shared memories.
