Abstract

Significant changes have occurred in the Spanish higher education system in the last two decades. While these changes may be considered positive in general, many aspects still could and should be changed to cope with the new European space of higher education and with the new model of university in the "era of knowledge". In this paper we will discuss the last changes, the conflicts that these changes have arisen, and the current challenges that the Spanish higher education system is facing.
