Abstract
This contribution brings together four books from noted scholars who analyse developments in contemporary European Union's politics. The EU's 2004 eastern enlargement and the defeat of the Constitutional Treaty are the major policy challenges facing European integration process and they serve to stimulate scholars from Comparative Politics to question about what European Union is, after questioned about how it works. The reviewed books are very different in their interpretation of the EU's nature, but all of them present the reader with an analysis aiming to understand the reasons for the current EU's crisis and to consider new solutions for future EU's developments.
