Abstract

Globalisation is influencing strongly the world economy, providing new challenges and opportunities both for developed and developing countries. Since capitals can easily be channelled to the best profit opportunities, globalisation has relevant effects not only on financial flows, but also in breaking down the traditional link between firm and territory. This can lead to dangerous productivity slowdown in Italy, given its peculiar industrial structure primarily based on small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, it is essential to consider carefully the potential negative effects of globalisation on the Italian production system in order to face its challenges in the best way.
