Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the results of a regional economic impact analysis aimed at quantifying the local macroeconomic effects (on employment and income) generated by the veterinary epidemiology centre «Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale"» between 1999 and 2010. Like many other research centres, the Institute participates in activities which produce impact on national and international level, this makes drawing its field of action and pinpointing the part of the economic effects that converges in its reference area very difficult. Therefore, in support of the economic impact analysis, a re-composition of the Institute's transactions framework is proposed. For the economic impact assessment, we employed Black's model (2004), suitably adapted to take into account the structural characteristics of the reference area. Therefore, the overall economic impact produced by the Institute is measured in terms of regional income. The transaction analysis was performed using several indicators.
