Abstract

The history of the "Cassa per il Mezzogiorno" has been the subject of several studies and analyses. From a purely quantitative point of view, the overall analysis of the financial statements shows that the Cassa managed to allocate between 104 and 80 million between 1950 and 1986 (at constant 2011 prices). The results of this important financial amount were variable and different tools and models of interpretation were adopted by historiography. The question of the territorial analysis of the interventions and their regional and provincial distribution is particularly important. The aim of this essay is to present a model for studying the role and the intervention strategies of the Cassa per ilMezzogiorno between 1950 and 1992 at a territorial level, based on the use of new quantitative series processed through the reorganization of the Cassa Archive filed to the State Central Archives on the occasion of the realization of the ASET project. Thus, this research allows to deepen some aspects of the activity of the Cassa and to make a comparison with the main indications proved by the historiography on the intervention strategies adopted by it.
