Abstract

This article provides an overview of the efforts concretely made by the Italian Antitrust Authority during the Covid-19 pandemic, retracing the key initiatives that have been undertaken or completed, both in antitrust and consumer protection matters, over almost two years struck by the health crisis. The analysis reveals that it has been necessary to adapt the procedures and redefine the priorities of intervention. Having a dual mandate to enforce both competition and consumer protection law, the Italian Competition Authority has leveraged a wide toolbox in order to discourage improper commercial behaviors brought about by the economic and health emergency.
