The anti-trust trial of Microsoft, the world's leading software and internet company, is likely to set the tone of monopoly law in America in the age of the information economy. Matthew Bishop of the economist looks at what is at stake, analyses the charges levelled against the computer giant, and explains how this case reveals weaknesses in America's approach to anti-trust policy.
