Nudging towards Vaccination

Abstract

Vaccinations prevent the spread of diseases. Adopting a problem solving approach, the article aims to investigate the most useful tools to promote the vaccinations. After having reconstructed the vaccination policies followed in Italy in the last few years, the article examines the possibility to use nudging to reach the aforesaid objective. In a problem solving approach, obligation or nudge are two possible strategies through which to pursue the goal of increasing the number of vaccinations: in the final part we discuss pros and cons of one and the other.
