Abstract

The article examines the interrelationships between the EU benchmark regulation and the provisions addressed to benchmarks included in the Market Abuse Regulation. The problematic issues that are faces are three. The first concerns the effectiveness of the pursued regulatory strategy of «propertisation» of financial benchmarks. Secondly, the work investigates the opportunity of extending the sanctioning powers provided for by art. 30 of the market abuse regulation to the administrators of benchmarks and their contributors. Finally, it will make some considerations on whether to maintain the manipulation of benchmarks among the objectives of the regulation on market abuse.
