Abstract
This talk revolves around the volume by Martha Nussbaum The New Religious Intolerance. Overcoming the Politics of Fear in an Anxious Age, published by Harvard University Press in 2012 and translated into Italian by il Saggiatore (under the title La nuova intolleranza. Superare la paura dell'Islam e vivere in una società più libera). The talk bears upon some central passages of the volume, where the author emphasises the reasons and the dangers of, as well as the solutions to, an increasing attitude of intolerance (originated by fears and suspicions which are widespread in most Western countries), whose implications, similarities, and divergences go well beyond the religious sphere.
