Abstract

Enjoying political rights is the most significant prerogative of the citizenship status, while the electoral discipline, regulating access to the right to vote or its extension, characterizes both the formation of Parliament and the deepest identity of the State. This essay reflects on the relationship between the application of the electoral discipline envisaged for the vote of Italians abroad and the possible “misdirectionsµ that this discipline can determine in relation to the benefit of citizenship. Nowadays, some of the provisions that regulate the vote of Italians abroad present aspects on which the debate on citizenship could undergo interesting developments. What has been said is particularly true when analysing the elements of differentiation that this deliberately derogatory discipline has introduced into the Italian legal system.
