Abstract
The 'discipline and honour' that the Italian Constitution requires of citizens involved in public functions pursuant to Art. 54(2) have long been neglected by doctrine and jurisprudence. The text analyses the opposite interpretations suggested by doctrine in the matter, and the contents and juridical value of this obligation, proposing a new reading interpreting discipline and honour as the preparation and intellectual honesty required to attend to a public function.
