Abstract

This essay reconstructs the key constitutional debates around the nature, organization, and functions of the Italian Supreme Judicial Council. It does so through an analysis of the main reform proposals that have been presented in recent years. Particular attention goes to the theme of the electoral rules for the designation of those members of the Council who are judges, rules that recently became the object of intense discussion and of new reform proposals.
