Abstract
The essay comments on the literary output of Emilio De Marchi and in particular his masterpiece entitled "Demetrio Pianelli", published in 1888 and dedicated to illustrating the ordinary life of a person who, in the context of Milan in the 1800s, works in public administration and is confronted daily by the difficulties of his work and with the injustices perpetrated by the bureaucratic hierarchy.
