Abstract

The article examines the journalistic narration of the femicide of Elisa Pomarelli. The case appears to be of interest in media studies due to the debate about distortion in gender violence reporting in Italian news coverage sparked by an article in «Il Giornale». A lexicometric and content analysis of 159 articles revealed a rhetoric of gender order both in the news articles and, to some extent, in those critiquing the news narrative. Even the critical articles, while reflecting a feminist perspective on violence against women, uncovered the persistence of traces of «distortions» recurrent in the production routines of Italian journalism
