Abstract
The article summarizes recent German, Anglo-Saxon and Italian research dealing with the increasing share of disinformation in the media and the related power shift between journalism and public relations, caused by lack of resources in journalism, the growth and the increasing professionalization of public relations, and the spread of social media. It is a dangerous development for democracies, as the «attention economy» might be transformed into a «disinformation economy».
