Abstract
In a conversation with the journal editors, Piero Angela – the Italian foremost television host, science journalist and writer – recalls his professional beginnings (1954-67) in Rai, the Italian public broadcasting company, and his undertaking in conceiving and producing for the first time tv programs focused on science or technology. At the core of his speech are: the research and choice of the appropriate formats and languages for the prime time TV public, and their evolution in the decades; the collaboration between strongly differentiated professionalism (technicians, video and set designers, cartoonist and so on) inside and outside the Rai; the knowledge and reference to the most advanced productions made by the main European broadcasters, as the BBC’s; the meetings and a permanent cooperation with scientists and researchers. And, last but not least, the production of audiovisual supports for visitors to art sites and above all the innovative use of light for the reconstruction of archeological sites.
