Abstract

The author argues that conscious and broad engagement of cultural organizations towards enhancement of intercultural competence could strengthen their position in a multicultural society and bring tangible benefits to these institutions, communities they serve and the society at large. At the same time, proven track of investment in intercultural competence could serve as a key criterion for the public authorities in legitimizing and allocating subsides in pace of vague notions such as quality or community impact. The notion of intercultural competence is further defined and possible approaches of various types of cultural organization in its implementations are sketched out. These strategies are further placed in both local and global frame, as a matter of war and peace in every community and a precondition for European integration.
