Abstract
While in the 2000-2006 programming period culture received about 80% of the total UE funding through the Structural Funds, the next one appears to be oriented to get rid altogether of culture. After a summary review of fifteen years of progressive inclusion of culture in the Structural Funds, the article considers the proposals of regulations for 2007-2013 and the Community Strategic Guidelines in search of indirect spaces where cultural policies could take new roots. In particular, guidelines concerning the attractiveness of Europe and its regions, the increase and improvement of knowledge and innovation and of jobs are taken into consideration, as well as the territorial dimension of cohesion policy, including cities, the rural areas and cooperation.
