Abstract
The EU's MEDNETA project conveys the message of communication, cross-cultural dialogue, creativity and cooperation in the Mediterranean context in six historical Mediterranean cities: Athens, Greece; Florence, Italy; Valencia, Spain; The Medina of Tunis; Beirut, Lebanon; Hebron, Palestine. Productive interaction between the heritage, creative industries and traditional arts and crafts can deliver revitalization and multiple benefits, in contrast to current pressures from mass tourism and the consumption- oriented uses of historic city centres. The perspective emerging from the project's implementation is the establishment of a new image of urban space, shaped by innovation and by creative activities operating as a link between old and new, innovation with tradition, ideas with techniques, and culture with tourism.
