Abstract

The article examines the relationship between visual arts and disease in the Italian context. For many years museums are engaged to make art accessible to people with mental disease or dementia. These museum activities to be widespread, need to reach quality through coordination and training. At the same time, we must consider that museum projects only make sense if they are located in a broader and more comprehensive perspective. Art and artist can also have many intrinsic and instrumental in healthcare and the physical design of healthcare setting can contribute to either positive or negative outcomes for patients. There are some important projects carried out in Italy, but we need a policy aimed at the creation of an integrated network of cultural and social services that can contribute to people well-being.
