Abstract

This paper, divided into three chapters, investigates some aspects of the art market from a qualitative perspective by acknowledging the multiplicity of the Art Market and the coexistence of different markets by simultaneously analysing the specific roles of key players in an ever-changing context and by delineating possible future scenarios. While deliberately limiting references to numbers and figures, the arguments focus on the difference between Art and Art market, revealing asymmetries, overlapping and mutual influences. When the distinction between Art and Art Market gets muddy, uncertain and in some cases undecidable, a fundamental question urgently arises: is the artistic act an ultimate form of resistance to the market?
