Abstract
The article discusses the relational implications occurring when children and adolescents get involved in the care of family members suffering from neoplastic diseases. The qualitative analysis of 16 in-depth interviews integrates a bio-psychosocial interpretation of health and illness from the perspective of children’s agency. The focus is on how children’s actions may contribute to the caregiving practices and how such involvement reflects on family relations, as well as on their lifestyles and psychosocial growth.
