Social capital in Italian Regions: Distributions of a Resource, according to the Istat Servey

Abstract

The article analyzes the distribution of the different type of social capital (family social capital, community social capital, associative social capital and generalized social capital) in Italy and the perspective assumed for study it considers the social capital as a dimension of the social relationships, particularly of the relationships of trust, solidarity and reciprocity. The data derive from the survey carried out by Istat in the year 2003. The results of the analysis show as the different types of social capital are distributed in the Italian regions, and they show that in the North Italy there is more social capital than South Italy while, finally, the attention is set on the importance that the social capital has for the organization of a good quality of the services and the social politics to regional level.
