Abstract
The paper presents the results of a study on transformation of the voluntary associations in two regions of southern Italy (Calabria and Campania), marked by a weak local welfare. Volunteering has played an important role in Italy. It has anticipated and encouraged social policies. However, currently going through a phase of redefinition, fragmentation of solidarity action and hybridization of associative identity play a central role.
