Abstract
The paper offers a framework of the main themes of the ongoing debate on sustainability, appropriateness and quality of educational services for early childhood, with particular reference to childcare services. It is also proposed an overview of the main findings of a survey carried out in a province of Emilia-Romagna on strategic policy choices regarding educational services, in relation to the demand expressed by the families of the area.
