Abstract

Starting from a qualitative research carried out in the Province of Trento, this contribution aims at understanding how self-tracking and gamification could be used in promoting active ageing inside a senior daily center. Using the concept of ageing as sociomaterial process, we analyse the ways in which human actors and technologies have collaborated within a geocaching project exploring the crucial role of the organizational context. Finally, we discuss empirical results in relation to the ageing process, moving from the rhetoric of assistance and vulnerability of older people, and instead giving priority to their involvement and participation, in connections and relationships among people, technologies and their contexts of use.
