Abstract
The paper aims to highlight the contribution that the study of migratory phenomena has made to the already abundant literature on the characteristics of Southern Europe. After having reconstructed the fundamental traits that these studies bring out about welfare models in Southern Europe countries, the paper focuses on Spain, Italy and Greece, on the migratory flows and routes that involve them and offers a reconstruction of these characteristics through current European funding for the management of migration flows and, in particular, through an analysis of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (Amif) .
