Abstract
The article examines the influence of science policies on the Third Mission (Tm) of Universities. Comparing three international examples (Responsible Research and Innovation, Broader Impacts and Social License to Operate), the article emphasises the trend to assess the relevance of scientific knowledge according to societal needs and expectations. In the closing section, the implications for the University’s Tm are discussed and the role of Public engagement in connecting Tm with the research mission of universities is examined.
