Abstract

The paper presents the experience of the Sociology Week carried out in Italy in the last three years, which has involved almost all of the Sociological Departments. The first aim is to claim the role of sociological knowledge towards the profound socio-economic, cultural and identity transformations taking place. The second goal is to emphasize the specific role of the University as an institution that dialogues with the contexts in which it is inserted. The Week was therefore a way to underline an assumption of responsibility for academic knowledge towards its several audiences, highlighting the link between the public role of Sociology and the public role of the University.
