Abstract
The article examines some aspects of Gabriele Galantara’s life and artistic production between 1892 and 1937: in particular, his militancy in the early years of the Italian Socialist Party, his affiliation with the freemasonry and his contribution to the visual propaganda of fascism. It also discusses the methodological approaches that has been pursued and the documentary sources that have been relied upon. Earlier literature on Galantara (1965-2016) is analyzed in a philological perspective, and some justification and explanations are provided for the image of the artist it present both intentionally and unintentionally.
