Abstract

In contemporary age, the «challenge» to the sky is identified with the modernity. In Europe, in the nineteenth century the public modernity of the urban landscape presented itself with monumentality and with the great road arteries, with avenues, rethinking the urban plan. The skyscrapers had an american birth: Chicago and New York were their cradle. Soon they knew an affirmation in many cities of the United States and change their skyline. The imagine of these giants often took a symbol of success and an affirmation of modernity. In twentyfirst century the run towards the sky has conquered many asiatic countries. The challenge to the sky has become a race in height. Sometimes to reach the sky, the ground on which those giants rest is forgotten.
