Abstract

The article analyses the link between extended writing and artificial intelligence, particularly with the emergence of the Shoggoth meme on the Internet. The image of a green octopus was created in the 1930s by Howard Lovecraft. With the advent of the ChatGPT neural network, the Shoggoth character was born a second time. He has become a viral meme and a symbol of the possible risks associated with the use of AI. The success of using the Shoggoth meme in extended writing is due to the fact that it has several levels of interpretation: a linear interpretation (smiley face: people shouldn’t be afraid) gives way to a critical interpretation (mask that hides the dangers of AI). We are invited to move from a system of regulating relations with AI based on fear (“weµ – “itµ) to one based on shame and ethical standards, with the aim of creating a new “weµ community
