Abstract

The essay focuses on the challenges posed by the “flawed democraciesµ to the European Union both before and after their accession, recalling the main mechanisms developed to address them. At the basis of this focus lies a more precise differentiation of countries and a reflection on the “thrustµ that this crisis has produced in the mechanisms of constitutionalisation of the Union.
