Abstract
The rule of law is one of our most basic political commitments but now is an old ideal in crisis. Its study has gained a lot of interest in recent years because it provides a basis to evaluate a wide variety of contemporary institutional arrangements. In this period, the European Union and the Member States seem to be doing as little as they can against rule of law backsliding. Through an examination of the legal systems, the article analyzes the reasons for the crisis of the rule of law
