Abstract
The study retraces the essential stages of research dedicated to the legal systems and, in particular, to the public law of East Asian countries, with special attention to studies published in Italy after the founding of Diritto pubblico comparato ed europeo in 1999. First of all, the progressive emancipation from Eurocentric conceptions, which confine the countries of East Asia to a marginal condition, is highlighted. The multiplicity of East Asian experiences, which present many internal differences, is then examined. The conclusion is proposed that the relevance of the study of East Asian countries exists, both from the point of view of intercultural and intracultural comparison.
