Abstract
The essay aims at analysing the political perspectives and the steps carrying out by Catalan public powers towards independence from Spain, especially calling a referendum which was illegal from the point of view of Spanish constitutional law and international law. The "Catalan issue" is difficult to solve because Spain is now involved in a deep political crisis with a distrust between citizens and national political parties and a weakness of its government. The concluding remarks of the essay try to answer a question: are the constitutional reforms the right way to solve the Catalan crisis? It's possible, but it's necessary to build a common ground of values negotiated between Catalonia and "the rest" of Spain, which is very difficult to achieve.
