Abstract
The aim of this article is to provide a brief analysis on the recent trends in the US commercial policy with special regard to the relations with the European Union, considering the Joint Statement of 25th July 2018 by Junker and Trump following their meeting launching a negotiation process between the EU and the US. Starting with a description of the Preferential Trade Agreements evolution in the EU, the actual Trump’s «neoprotectionism» features are examined. Finally, the contents of the two EU and USA negotiating mandates are analysed, in order to identify mutual expectations and purposes.
