Abstract

This essay analyzes the most relevant books about Italian foreign policy which have appeared in the last 30 years, selected according to the author's opinion. During this period the attention of Italian historiography has been concentrated on the position of Italy in the framework of the Cold War. Despite the prevalence of this kind of interests, many scholars decided to deepen the study of Italian foreign policy between 1870 and WWI. This kind of intellectual enterprise has been important for two different reasons: firstly it described the foreign policy of a not yet consolidated European nation; secondly, these books were written when the ideological confrontation among the different streams of Italian historiography had started to decrease.
